THREE MARINERS HEADED TO AHL

PORTLAND, ME – October 29, 2018 – Three Mariners players will join AHL teams this week after a series of moves Sunday and Monday. The Montreal Canadiens recalled forwards Antoine Waked and Michael Pezzetta to the Laval Rocket, while goaltender Connor LaCouvee has been loaned to the Utica Comets.

Waked has posted one goal and three assists in seven games for the Mariners this season. The speedy forward spent all of 2017-18 with Laval, where he scored 7 goals with 11 assists in 63 games. He signed a three-year contract with Montreal out of the QMJHL in April 2017.

Pezzetta, a 2016 draft pick of the Canadiens, joined the Mariners last Tuesday on a rehab assignment and appeared in all three subsequent games. He was the captain of the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL last season, before being traded to the Sarnia Sting midseason. Between the two teams, Pezzetta scored 23 goals and added 19 assists in 62 games. He signed an entry level contract with the Canadiens in March of this year.

LaCouvee has been loaned to the Utica Comets. Responsible for both Mariners wins, he made his first professional start on October 21st, defeating the Newfoundland Growlers with a 32 save effort on 34 shots. Three days later, he stopped 36 of 39 as the Mariners defeated Manchester, 4-3. His debut came on October 20th in a relief appearance against Worcester. LaCouvee signed with the Mariners over the summer after finishing his college career at Minnesota State Mankato, and posting the third best GAA in the nation (1.80). He played previously at Boston University.

The Mariners host the Reading Royals this Friday at the Cross Insurance Arena at 7:30 PM. The Mariners are members of the ECHL: the premier AA hockey league in the United States and a proud affiliate of the New York Rangers. Single game tickets are on sale now at www.MarinersOfMaine.com or by calling the Trusted Choice Box office at 207-775-3458.
