ALBRECHT SIGNED, FOSSIER LOANED TO PROVIDENCE

PORTLAND, ME – February 17, 2023 – The Mariners made two more forward transactions on Friday, signing Austin Albrecht, while Mitch Fossier was loaned to the Providence Bruins. Albrecht has spent time with four different organizations this season, including the Indy Fuel.

A 26-year-old forward from Flemington, NJ, Albrecht has played most of this season in the Southern Professional Hockey League between three teams. He appeared in 17 games for the Fayetteville Marksmen and 14 for the Vermillion County Bobcats. Most recently, he joined the Birmingham Bulls. In combined SPHL action this season, he has six goals and 11 assists. Albrecht has also appeared in four ECHL games this season with the Indy Fuel, scoring one goal. He played one additional ECHL game with the Wichita Thunder in the 2020-21 season.

Albrecht played collegiately in the NCAA DI ranks for both the University of Massachusetts and American International College. Last season, he went overseas, playing in Germany and the United Kingdom. Prior to college, Albrecht had a long and successful career junior hockey career with the North American Hockey League’s Wichita Falls Wildcats. In the 2015-16 season, he finished 7th in the league in scoring, when he posted 60 points (26 goals, 34 assists) in 58 games. He would go onto to play in the United States Hockey League for his final season of juniors, for the Sioux Falls Stampede and Muskegon Lumberjacks.

Mitch Fossier earns his first American Hockey League call up of the season with Providence. The 26-year-old Alpharetta, GA native is currently fourth on the Mariners in scoring, with 31 points in 24 games. Fossier has prior AHL experience in the 2020-21 season for the Rockford IceHogs, where had eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) in 19 contests. Fossier joins Pat Shea (Providence), Mathew Santos (Milwaukee), and Alex Kile (Lehigh Valley) as Mariners forwards recently called up to the AHL. Shea returned to Maine earlier this week.
