PORTLAND, ME – April 2, 2022 – The Maine Mariners have signed forward Reid Stefanson, out of the University of Massachusetts Lowell, the team announced on Saturday. Stefanson joins an established list of former River Hawks to play for the Mariners, including each of his #9 predecessors, Nick Master and Terrence Wallin.

A native of Winnipeg, MB, Stefanson played the final two seasons of his Junior career in the United States. He spent the 2016-17 season with the Minot Minotauros of the North American Hockey League, where he was the team’s leading scorer – 21 goals and 32 assists in 54 games. He was elevated to the United States Hockey League the following season where he played for the Sioux Falls Stampede and had another solid season: 39 points (13 goals, 26 assists) in 51 games.

In a four-year career at UMass Lowell, Stefanson put up 15 or more points three times, bookended by identical freshman and senior seasons, in which he had 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) each year. Throughout his time at Lowell, he was named the team’s Rookie of the Year and was a Hockey East Top Scholar-Athlete as a sophomore.
